WA Water-Gate

Uses

  • Controlling pollution spills in watercourses
  • Creating a reserve to enable high volume pumping
  • Use as a cofferdam in small rivers or streams

Benefits

  • Can be converted to a flood barrier by adding a ballast
  • Quick
  • Economical
  • Works on various surfaces
  • Environmentally-friendly
  • Reusable

Water-Gate flexible cofferdams are used by contractors and site managers for their efficiency, simplicity and versatility.

Use to create areas to repair structures, underpinning, reinforce river supports, repointing, restoring ecological continuity, removing log jams, renovating bank, draining feeder canals, etc.

Works in water – rivers – canals – ponds. WA Water-Gates can be used in a variety of situations. Uneven ground increases friction and thus the stability of the dam. Care is required when using the dam on muddy ground. On a concrete surface, we recommend using the WL range of flexible cofferdams, rather than the WA range of cofferdams. On a sandy surface, you must bury the leading edge to limits the effects of piping erosion.

The system can be used in conjunction with an Overflow Diverter Tunnel to replace over-pumping for in-water works

In Water-Works

Overflow Diverter Tunnel

Traditionally, sandbags have been used in streams to create a dry working area. When the water flow is blocked by the dam, the water level rises, and a pump is required to ‘over-pump’ the water downstream, past the dam. With the Water-Gate, an overflow diverter tunnel can be used which replaces the need for over-pumping. The overflow pipe clips onto the top of the barrier allowing the water to be channelled downstream.

The overflow pipe has a max flow capacity of 90 litres per second (5400 litres per minute).

The kit consists of 2 main parts: the overflow diverter and the main tunnel.

Overflow Diverter Diagram

Overflow Diverter

The Overflow Diverter is made of incredibly tough and hardwearing polyethylene. The black portion is funnel shaped to siphon off and drain excess water behind the Water-Gate. The yellow sliding float inside the diverter is intended to stabilise it, and allow the water flow to be adjusted. It is recommended to weigh the diverter down with a couple of ballast bags on top of the diverter to maximise the flow and improve stability.

Dimensions: 38cm (h) x 61cm (w) x 1m (l) 14.5Kgs

MAIN TUNNEL

The main tunnel connects to the overflow diverter and can be used to channel water downstream.

The main tunnel comes with rugged handles every 1.5m (5ft) for easier handling. The tunnel is 22.7m (75ft) long.

The complete kit includes both the Overflow Diverter and Main Tunnel: Code DA1200. Diverter tunnel benefits include:

  • Reusable
  • Environmentally friendly
  • Quick to install
  • Durable
  • Easy to use

After 4 floods in 16 years, the Water-Gate Barrier was used in November and December 2012. The relief when it prevented what would have been a 5th and 6th flood was enormous. The best part is the piece of mind that follows.
