Today, 13th October 2025, saw the launch of the brand-new Floodmobile, a partnership between BeFloodReady and Flood Re aimed at helping people better understand their flood risk, alongside how to manage it.
I was at Westminster this afternoon representing FPS for the official launch. The new Floodmobile is a mobile Property Flood Resilience (PFR) demonstration unit, showcasing the latest technology and interventions such that we can live better with flood risk.
This evening I’ll be attending the House of Commons for Flood Re’s Parliamentary Reception, for the launch of Flood Action Week.
Showcasing Flood Resilience
The Floodmobile gives homeowners, businesses, and councils a chance to see flood protection measures in action. Inside, you’ll find flood doors, barriers, airbrick covers, resilient building materials, including our Stream SPK530 Puddle Pump, which we’re proud to see on display (and also available at floodandwaterpumps.co.uk). Our own flood barriers are also part of the setup, which is again fantastic to see. They’ve been included alongside other examples of protection products, helping people visualise how they can make their properties more resilient. You can learn more about the flood barriers here: Nautilus Flood Barriers and the FPS Barrier®.
Having been flooded in 2007, and later successfully mitigating the property from flooding, I’m well aware how much the impact of flooding changes your life and have full empathy for anyone impacted. Anyone who’s been flooded knows how much it changes your life. The fear of it happening again never really goes away. But with the right measures and knowledge, you can turn that fear into a sense of control and readiness, and that’s exactly what the Floodmobile is about – empowering communities and individuals to manage flood risk where larger schemes are not viable or quick. Property Flood Resilience measure can be installed relatively quickly, although it is always advised to follow the CIRIA C790 Code of Practice and have a thorough Risk Assessment and Flood Survey undertaken first, which are available through our sister company, an Environment Agency Partner, FPS Environmental Ltd.
The Scale of the Challenge and Importance of PFR
Research from Flood Re and JBA Risk Management shows just how big the opportunity, and need is for Property Flood Resilience. Nearly 22 million homes (about three-quarters of all housing in the UK), are suitable for some form of PFR based on their build and layout. Of these, 3.1 million homes are at flood depths where measures are proven to work, with 2.6 million homes facing shallow flooding (under 30 cm), where simple solutions like airbrick covers and flood barriers can and do make a huge difference.
Where Next for the Floodmobile
After Westminster, the Floodmobile will be setting off on its first tour, visiting Birmingham, Manchester, and Lancaster, before being made available to hire nationwide.
Flood Action Week & The Bonfield Review
This week is Flood Action Week, encouraging homeowners and businesses to check their flood risk and take steps to prepare. On Thursday, the Bonfield Flood Review will also be launched, setting out a roadmap for how the UK can improve flood resilience through better standards and greater collaboration.
A huge thank you to Mary Long-Dhonau OBE, BeFloodReady, and all the Floodmobile sponsors for making this new version possible.
It’s a brilliant example of what happens when awareness leads to action, helping communities become safer, stronger, and better prepared for the future.
And, finally, for those of you reading this who have been impacted by flooding or want to take action to reduce the risk and likelihood of it happening to your home, business, or community, please ensure you contact us.
