We’re excited to welcome Rob Pike to our team as a Flood Surveyor & Flood Risk Consultant.
Rob is joining us to help drive up standards within the flood sector and enhance our service offering.
Historically, in certain instances, flood surveys were offered by poorly qualified individuals, who did not necessarily have adequate insurance to undertake the works. Fortunately, the flood sector has moved forward a long way in the past few years, and the sector now has a voluntary Code of Practice from CIRIA to further enforce high standards. Having been flooded in 2007 (without defences) I have made it my mission to raise awareness of flood risk and help reduce it. Having Rob as part of our team will enable us to continue to offer industry leading advice to work towards our Mission Statement.
A growing team will enable us to reduce our lead time and ensure high quality advice is more accessible in the sector.
Rob Pike explains:
I am delighted to have recently joined Simon and his team at Flood Protection Solutions.
Flooding will never be an issue that can be fully eliminated, and with the onset of climate change combined with the strains on dated, and often inadequate infrastructure, flood risk management is now more critical than ever to ensure the financial burden and emotional trauma of flooding is minimised wherever possible. I am driven by the challenge of overcoming flooding problems and pride myself on providing thorough and high-quality advice, ensuring clients have confidence in my assessment and recommendations.
I have a Master’s degree in Water and Environmental Management and over 6 years experience working in the flood risk consultancy sector. I have previously worked at a leading development and infrastructure consultancy firm, predominantly preparing Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs) and drainage designs for land development projects. The exposure to projects varying in location, nature and scale has allowed me to gain a holistic appreciation of the risks, constraints and considerations necessary when reviewing flood risk and providing recommendations. I also spent a period on secondment within the Flood and Coastal Risk Management team at the Environment Agency (EA) within the West Midlands. During this time, I gained an appreciation of how flooding is monitored, managed and assessed on a catchment scale, and how the EA utilise both soft and hard engineered assets to protect people and property. More recently I have spent time working within a family engineering consultancy practice, where I helped grow the business to cover environmental consultancy sectors including flood risk assessments and drainage design for typically small-scale developments.
I am excited to now join Flood Protection Solutions where I hope my knowledge and experience will help grow and enhance the business’ reputation as experts within flood risk management sector.
I am a Member of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM). I am looking to work towards chartership in the near future.
