Yesterday was a stark reminder that flooding can happen at any time of year, and anywhere in the country.
In Nottinghamshire, we received flood warnings from the Environment Agency’s free flood warning system on Easter Sunday, and hoped the flood would not materialise. As we all know, flooding can cause devastating damage and be traumatic.
Bank Holiday Monday came, and brought with it torrential rain. I revisited my former village to help with the community resilience effort, and it was pleasing to see that no properties were flooded, despite the village flooding. The community pulled together and are a fantastic showcase of what can be achieved.
Alongside this, I was delighted to see a Water-Gate barrier had saved a home from flooding:
The resident was not at home, and the barrier was deployed by the neighbour, showing a strong community effort.
As the Water-Gate is a rapid response tool, it was deployed in time. There would not have been time to build a sandbag wall. The barrier is also reusable ready for next time.
If you would like a quote for a Water-Gate, or for us to work with your community, please do not hesitate to contact us.
