Residential Property Flood Resilience | Wareham, Dorset
Posted 04. 11. 2024
Flood Protection Solutions Ltd were appointed by homeowners in Wareham, Dorset to install flood mitigation measures to their detached property.
The property already had a low flood wall surrounding the rear patio area. However, a combination of factors—including poor-quality, untested pre-existing flood barriers, the absence of backflow protection, and rising groundwater without any pumps to remove it—still resulted in flooding prior to FPS being contacted.
Following a site survey and CCTV drainage survey by FPS Environmental Ltd, Flood Protection Solutions Ltd supplied and installed a selection of measures to help mitigate the future risk to the property.
This flood protection measures included:
• Replacing the existing Front Door with a Flood Door.
• Installing a Flood Barrier to the Garage.
• Installing a Flood Barrier to the Patio.
• Installing an Iguazu 635 Sump and Pump system into the patio area. This small patio area is defended by a low wall, flood barrier and NRVs, but it is accepted some water with pool here… whether out the sky, off the roof, or seepage/groundwater. A puddle pump could be used, but that would require human intervention, and as flooding can be very stressful, it’s nice to make it as “stress-free” as possible. The sump pump installed will turn off and on as required, not needing any human intervention during a flood. It is effectively passive, helping to keep the property dry.
Watch as FPS Installer Anton explains the pump system installed:
• Installing push fit Non-Return Valves as Backflow Protection to both the Foul and Surface water.
• Tanking the internal face of the external garage wall that joins the patio flood wall – this is to reduce the ability for any flood water to enter through the property wall.
To learn more about tanking and structural waterproofing, Simon Crowther from Flood Protection Solutions Ltd explains more in the video below.
With the combination of measures, the property is now much better protected against the elements. To discuss your property, please contact us on 0115 9870358.
