An Informed Decision – Shoreham

Alarmingly, 67% of people do not know their flood risk.
One of the first steps to knowing your flood risk involves a simple check on the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales or SEPA website.
A mapped risk should not necessarily be immediate cause for concern, however, should highlight that further research is required.
On receipt of an enquiry, many companies would send a salesperson, looking to sell flood barriers, pumps, non-return valves, anti-flood airbricks etc. The full suite of flood resistance measures. This is not how we work at Flood Protection Solutions. We only use qualified staff for our surveyors who are vastly experienced, and correctly insured. As part of the survey, we will assess the risk holistically. Where near a main river, this may include obtaining additional information with the river model, such that modelled depths can be assessed at the property.
For one such client, the flood risk map showed the land at medium flood risk, however the property is constructed above the surrounding land and is situated up a number of steps. The actual floor level was above any predicted flood level. This information was obviously pleasing to the client, and then placed them in a fully informed position as to whether they wanted to invest in any mitigation measures or consider options such as an evacuation plan.
The client, Mr Lattimer, explained:
We had a very thorough and professional survey of our flood risk and options to mitigate. Most impressed.
The first step to mitigation flood risk, should be to assess it. At Flood Protection Solutions Ltd we pride ourselves on our competitive advantage by only using qualified and trained staff who not only survey the property, but also assess risk. The surveyors are not salespeople, they are not incentivised to sell products, and as such, work towards the most positive outcome for the property.
Where larger schemes such as boundary protection is considered, our surveyors will also be able to support you through any permitting obligations.
