Care Home Flood Mitigation
Posted 19. 12. 2018
In May 2018, areas of Kent suffered from an unprecedented level of rainfall with circa 120mm falling in just one day. Many properties were affected, including Victory Care Home, which suffered from flooding when a drainage pipe in the main road surcharged and burst, sending water cascading towards the care home.
Flood Protection Solutions Ltd was commissioned to investigate the flood risk and look at potential options. A risk-based mitigation approach was followed, and the project was managed from an initial site survey through to the completion of the works. Flood barriers were installed along with a ‘Flood Fence’ which has been designed to resist water and overturning motion. The airbricks were also replaced with self-closing airbricks and a puddle pump supplied for seepage.
“From the initial site survey through to the fully completed project I found Flood Protection Solutions to be professional and knowledgeable. They took the time to understand our concerns and investigate the flood risk before looking into mitigation options. The final solution blends in to the surroundings and we are very happy with it. I would not hesitate to use them again in the future.”
Mark Heywood-Briggs, Group Commercial Director.
Simon Crowther from Flood Protection Solutions Ltd explained “flooding is incredibly disruptive and damaging, especially in this instance due to the business disruption and impact on the residents. We are pleased to have worked with Agincare Group to manage the project from the initial surveys to a completed risk based mitigation scheme.”
