Every time there was very intense rain, water gushed down towards the BroadMarsh Shopping Centre with nothing to stop it in its tracks. The shopping centre had flooded in 2012, 2013 and 2014. The flooding was costing the shopping centre money each time, as the water damaged the flooring, shops and electrics. There was also a big clean up- which meant the centre would close for a while and lose
out on valuable business. It was clearly obvious something needed to be done to help prevent the centre from being flooded again.
The entrance to the shopping centre is 100ft wide, and had doors across the whole width. Slot in type barriers would have been far too slow, and require too much storage space and training.
Flood Protection Solutions Ltd proposed having two Water-Gates pre-joined in a crate (as seen above). This meant any member off staff could easily wheel the crate along, and deploy the barrier. Using this method the whole 100ft entrance could be defended in around 2 minutes. The Water-Gate allows the BroadMarsh Centre to be defended with just a few minutes’ notice. A pump was also supplied with the barrier- to help ensure a complete solution.
