August Roundup - Flood Protection Solutions

Posted 05. 09. 2018

We may have had one of the hottest summers on record, but this does not mean flood risk has gone away. Like the saying ‘what goes around comes around’ we ultimately may end up paying for our dry summer later with floods. The baked hard ground will exacerbate flood issues and could cause devastating impacts.

At present we’re gearing up for the Flood Expo at the NEC which is only a week away. You can get free tickets here

We’ve broken down our best bits into snippets below for you:

The flood sector has had a very tough time of late with multiple businesses going into liquidation. We are proud of our resilience and are therefore delighted to have been listed in Small Business Saturday’s ‘Small Biz 100’ list as one of the top 100 small businesses in the U.K!  It is vital that the flood sector receives recognition and we are delighted with the news.

We would like to thank our customers for their ongoing support to enable this to happen.

We are often asked about our Expert Flood Surveys. We use some of the country’s best flood engineers to detail risk and mitigation methods for sites. An expert eye can often come up with simple but effective solutions. We surveyed a site in Bournville and subsequently reconfigured a basement step to reduce flood risk. We also fitted flood barriers to the entrances. Here are some photos from the job.

Please contact us to discuss your site and how we can reduce the flood risk, with affordable and effective mitigation.

As you will know, we also run www.floodandwaterpumps.co.uk – one of the largest online pump stores in the U.K. This summer has seen record demand for pumps for irrigation and oxygenation of ponds. If you require any pumps for flood defence, please do not hesitate to contact us.

We have also continued on our quest to improve flood response and save money by encouraging a transition from sandbags to Water-Gate Flood Barriers, including on site in Dundee, Norfolk and in Kent. The barriers are also useful as cofferdams for repair works in watercourses as shown below:

That’s all from us for now, but hopefully we will see you at the Flood Expo!

Sole UK distributors of the Water Gate Barrier

The Water-Gate barrier from Megasecur is used in 36 countries around the world. As the sole UK distributor of this flood barrier, we distribute the product across the entire country. The Water-Gate barrier is highly innovative and easily deployed, offering one of the fastest deployment of water
barriers available. Access to emergency vehicles and other vehicles is not compromised as the barrier can be driven over.

The Water-Gate can be shaped around corners and on uneven surfaces, offering flexible protection, and can be joined to create any length. The barrier can be supplied in crates to make deployment of long lengths extremely rapid.
It is cost effective, comparing particularly well with sandbags, especially as it is reusable.

The material used is recyclable and the Water-Gate is reusable making it extremely environmentally friendly.
The barrier is resistant to a long list of chemicals and has been independently tested. It is widely used in pollution control.
