At Flood Protection Solutions, we regularly work with communities, flood groups and local residents. We have previously helped individuals and groups to access and secure grant funding to purchase vital flood protection equipment.
We take great pride in delivering high levels of customer service and regularly help communities achieve funding to become more resilient.
We have a range of Community Flood Kits that have been tailored to meet the needs of communities whether they are small or large. Each flood kit has a combination of products which are ideal for communities to have located in Resilience Stores in high risk areas, or in a garage, enabling residents to respond quickly and effectively.
Our Community Flood Kits include a range of equipment to help improve response to flooding. We recommend our Community Flood Resilience kits to all communities which are in a flood risk area.
Whilst we cannot prevent flooding, we can prepare for it. Being prepared for an emergency such as flooding can help reduce the risk to you, your family and the surrounding community, limiting the damage caused.
Working as a community can be an incredibly effective way of reducing the flood risk in your area. It is recommended to have a Community Resilience or Flood Store. Community resilience doesn’t have to be just for flooding, and you may find it useful to also store equipment such as snow shovels and road salt/grit. The store can provide a source of equipment that your community can use in emergencies. Any flood equipment stored can be accessed and utilised during heavy rainfall to help reduce the flood risk and make the community more resilient. You may wish to work with your local Council to create resilience hubs throughout the area.
The resilience store should be in an easily accessible location close to the community centre, but not at risk of flooding itself. This may be in an existing community building such as a Parish Hall. You may be required to purchase an appropriate container to store the equipment. Ensure the store is accessible by flood wardens or various community members – the last thing you want is a well-stocked store and to find the key holders are on holiday when required. Perhaps consider having a key code access to the store and sharing the code among trusted members of the community.
Community Flood Funding can be a postcode lottery, and at Flood Protection Solutions Ltd we are keen to help where possible. We have previously paid for funding consultants to help communities with their applications for grants. This is another way we can help communities access essential equipment to improve their resilience. Clive Manvell, from the Hanneys Flood Group recently commented:
“Many thanks for reviewing the application so positively, I will take on board all your suggestions.”
As Part of a DEFRA Pathfinder grant, we supplied a community of 12 homes in Devon with a Water-Gate. The Water-Gate has since been used in anger and protected the community from the upheaval, expense and stress that flooding causes.
After 4 floods in 16 years, the Water-Gate Barrier was used in November and December 2012. The relief when it prevented what would have been a 5th and 6th flood was enormous. The best part is the piece of mind that follows.
