WA Water-Gate Flexible Cofferdam Barrier

Water-Gate flexible cofferdams are used by contractors and site managers for their efficiency, simplicity and versatility.

Use to create areas to repair structures, underpinning, reinforce river supports, repointing, restoring ecological continuity, removing log jams, renovating bank, draining feeder canals, etc.

Works in water – rivers – canals – ponds. WA Water-Gates can be used in a variety of situations. Uneven ground increases friction and thus the stability of the dam. Care is required when using the dam on muddy ground. On a concrete surface, we recommend using the WL range of flexible cofferdams, rather than the WA range of cofferdams. On a sandy surface, you must bury the leading edge to limits the effects of piping erosion.

THE SYSTEM CAN BE USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH AN OVERFLOW DIVERTER TUNNEL TO REPLACE OVER-PUMPING FOR IN-WATER WORKS

In Water-Works

The Water-Gate is a temporary water barrier which is unique in the way that, once rolled out, it self-deploys.

It uses the weight of the water to hold the water back. The water lifts the top of the barrier whilst at the same time weighing the base down, forming a seal. By utilising this unique self-opening method, it reduces the time, effort and number of people required to install it.

There are a range of sizes available to suit different applications.

Designed for flood control. For occasional use, ideal in residential situations. The WP is the lightest model, however it does require slot in ballast bags along the leading edge, so it slower to deploy than the WL.

  • Very resilient polyethylene fabric
  • Stretched partitions providing better adherence
  • Polypropylene straps to lift the ends during specific installations
  • Polyester netting sewn into the water barrier, allowing the insertion of weights or small ballast bags to weigh the barrier down
  • Small polyethylene bags that can be filled with sand
  • Extra resistant polypropylene straps to facilitate handling

WT Water-Gate Pollution Control Barrier

HELP AVOID HEAVY FINES

Whilst Water-Gates are regularly used for flood control, they can also be used to control chemical spills both on land or in water. The barriers have been tested by an independent professional chemist using commercial solvents.

The WT barrier has release holes to allow pollution to be controlled in watercourses, whilst allowing fresh water to flow. It can be used in conjunction with oil sorbents to control spills. The barrier features openings at its base that can be operated to let clean water flow through. The pollutant is collected at the surface where it builds up long enough to be treated. The release holes can be opened or closed during use.

Emergency response to oil spills can be particularly difficult, with a high potential for contamination. It is important for first responders to have systems which are light, compact, flexible, efficient and effective.

The WA and WT Water-Gates are designed to be used in watercourses, and can be used to control or contain pollution. This spill response equipment combines simplicity, robustness and reliability. It can be used to block or dam streams, small rivers or ditches for spill response and also to create water reserves in watercourses.

Spill response incidents in shallow water present difficult response recovery conditions. With the Water-Gate, a watercourse of a few inches in depth is conveniently transformed into a deeper and calmer response zone. A cost effective and convenient operation can be achieved by using the Water-Gate barrier in conjunction with skimmers, sorbents and vacuum units.

The Water-Gate can be used in conjunction with a Spillboa (or other sorbent booms) to contain pollution.  The Spillboa can be clipped to the top of the barrier to control oil spills. Oil floats to the top of the water, and the Spillboa floats to hold back and absorb oil.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY

‘The Water-Gates performed effectively in trials and they would have helped to enable polluted water to be transported away from the risk area. The Water-Gates are ideal for this type of project and would have minimised any further risks of pollution if used in anger.”
